But behind his public image as a celebrated humanitarian, Church leaders knew of serious psychiatric problems and allegations of sexual abuse. Historians Axelle Brodiez-Dolino and Bruno Dumons examined Church archives for a new book. In an interview with La Croix (October 17), Brodiez-Dolino discussed their findings.
